It’s almost turkey time in Indianapolis, and you know what that means: ’tis the season to count your blessings. Fortunately for the residents of the Circle City, Indianapolis music fans have more musical blessings than they know what to do with. Indy is fortunate enough to have a diverse and thriving music scene, with everything from jazz to punk making a strong showing each week; the city’s a veritable cornucopia, a windfall if you will, of musical crops, enough to make the Pilgrims over at Conner Prairie proud.
Bad Thanksgiving puns aside, this weekend is a great opportunity to indulge in a live show or two: show your thanks to the Indianapolis art community by heading out to an Indianapolis cultural district to catch a live performance by an Indianapolis band. They’ll be grateful you did, and their families will thank you too, since you supplied gas money to get the bands home for Thanksgiving.
Highlights for this weekend’s live music calendar include Naptown‘s most famous hip-hop duo, Mudkids, performing with Midwest Hype at the Mousetrap. If you’re a fan of chill break beats and hilarious rhymes, head on out to this Indianapolis bar on Friday. Other highlights include punk band Kill City at the Melody Inn, the Indianapolis Opera‘s performance of “La Boheme”, and over the top hair metal tribute band Hairbangers Ball (wigs and tight pants included) at The Vogue.
