Next Monday, Indianapolis is going to host several of the largest bands in radio rock music. The Murat Theatre, that historic and happening Indianapolis music venue, will be filled with the sounds of peppy guitars, snapping percussion, and lovelorn lyrics as WZPL 99.5 hosts Jingle Jam 2009. Indianapolis music fans take note: this one will probably be sold out within a few days. Past Jingle Jams have been held at many of the best Indianapolis performing arts venues, including the Vogue Theatre and the Pepsi Coliseum, but 2009’s iteration is the first to take the stage of the Murat.
This year’s Jingle Jam will consist of several of the best selling rock artists in popular music. Headlining the bill is the All-American Rejects, whose records have sold over 10 million copies worldwide in the band’s relatively short career. Their debut album, 2002’s The All-American Rejects, produced the single “Swing, Swing” and has gone platinum in the United States. Their second album, Move Along, went double platinum, and their most recent, 2008’s When the World Comes Down, has produced one of the most viral radio hits of last year, “Gives You Hell.”

Returning to Jingle Jam since their debut at the Indianapolis festival in 2002, Barenaked Ladies are returning to the Circle City for an encore. After their success at the Pepsi Coliseum in the Indiana State Fairgrounds at 2002’s Jingle Jam, Barenaked Ladies are once again bringing their riotously funny on-stage performance and notoriously catchy singles to the Indianapolis music community. A perennial radio presence throughout the 90’s, Barenaked Ladies have just finished recording their 12th studio album and will likely be debuting several songs from that record.

Jingle Jam 2009 will also feature performances by Five For Fighting, a melodic piano-based group that’s best known for smash hit singles like “100 Years” and “Superman (It’s Not Easy)”, Kansas City based band Vedera, and Indiana radio favorites The Elms, whose hit single “Back to Indiana” premiered during the television broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 this year.
