Dean Johnson Design Hosts Holiday One Piece Show

Dean Johnson Design Gallery on Mass Ave in Indianapolis downtown is getting in on IDADA’s First Friday Art Walk fun with their Holiday One Piece Show. Through the month of December, Indianapolis artists Nick Allman, Morgen Bosler and Lauren Zoll will be featured in a special exhibit called New Design at the Dean Johnson Design Art Gallery. A special first Friday opening reception will be held on December 4 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

These Indy artists are putting their own spin on traditionally mundane items in the Holiday One Piece Show. Nick Allman creates an environment where household items seemingly come to life. His entryway table and iconic Arco Floor Lamp burst into the existing architecture of a home. These items crash into life as they collide with a building in an unusual way. Morgan Bosler is a master handcraft-er. She has put her skills to work, making ceramic urns intended to honor the passing of a loved one’s spirit and the loss of their individuality. Through the expression of pure art and design, Bosler creates a lifetime of comfort for the grieving in her work.

Lastly, Lauren Zoll is reinventing the vase. With a variety of mediums, she creates representations of the antithesis of design. Using materials such as rebar, Lauren Zoll mixes brutality with beauty to create a totally functional vase. In addition to the work of Nick Allman, Morgen Bosler and Lauren Zoll, design works by other Hoosier artists will be on sale in the new Dean Johnson Design Gallery store front. They include the works of Ben Langebartels, Ted Ross, Danielle Riede and Brian Presnell. Check out their new store fronting Mass Ave and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and the work of these talented Indianapolis artists. The work will hang through January 23, 2010.
