Ever since The Wizard of Oz was published at the turn of the twentieth century, Dorothy Gale of the middle of no where Kansas has captivated the hearts and minds of the world. L. Frank Baum’s magical adventure comes to life this holiday season at the Indianapolis Civic Theatre with their production of The Wizard of Oz. From December 11 through January 3, the Indianapolis Civic Theatre presents all the glitter and gold of the Land of Oz in a fantastical stage production.
MGM studios made the book a legendary part of motion picture history. As a classic film starring Judy Garland celebrate its 70th anniversary, Indianapolis Civic Theatre breathes new life into this old classic for Indianapolis kids. Introduce them to a part of Americana, an icon that stands for the power of dreaming. Like so many young girls, Dorothy Gale dreams of leaving home. As her curiosity percolates about what lies over the rainbow, she faces the perils of childhood.
One day a twister hits her small Kansas farm and sends her and her dog, Toto, to the far away whimsical Land of Oz. With magical ruby slippers on her feet, she voyages along the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard of Oz. Along the way she picks up some help from new friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together the power of their imaginations help them defeat obstacles such as flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch of the West’s horrible schemes. This Indianapolis arts production is directed by Brent E. Marty and choreographed by Rory D. Shivers with music direction by Shelbie L. Wahl. With all the great music from the film, fantastic dance numbers and all your favorite characters, the Indianapolis Civic Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz is sure to entertain this holiday season.
