At nine he learned the drums; at ten he mastered the trombone and just for kicks two years later he took on the bass. Heavily influenced by genre crossing artists in jazz and pop, Culbertson often listened to his favorite albums by bands like Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Earth, Wind and Fire, and The Brecker Brothers. His own talents for composing music emerged in the seventh grade, when he played his piano recital full of original pieces.
Brian Culbertson studied music at the prestigious Depaul University of Chicago. His career as a professional musician began shortly there after in the advertising industry. Culbertson had the pleasure of hearing his original jingles on television and radio in commercials for Oldsmobile, United Airlines, Sears and McDonald’s. At only 20 years old, Brian released his first album. The self-produced effort was titled Long Night Out. Just one year later he released another album, Modern Life, which propelled him to the top of the R&R and Gavin’s Contemporary Jazz charts. Since then he has produced several more albums entitled, After Hours, Secrets, Somethin’ Bout Love, Nice & Slow, Come on Up, It’s on Tonight and more.
