For two performances only at Westfield High School this Saturday, December 12 at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra will wow Indianapolis society with their own contributions to Carmel music. Guest artists in Indianapolis, Cathy Berns Rund and Steven W. Caress will lead the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in sixteen holiday classics ranging from selections from Handel’s Messiah to Schubert’s Ave Maria to Tyzik’s Chanukah Suite to Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. The Carmel Symphony Orchestra hits all the holiday notes, making for a diverse program that will Celebrate the Holidays!
Cathy Berns Rund comes to Indianapolis from her home in Sheridan, Indiana, where she puts her musical talents to good use as music director of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon, Indiana. She began her musical career at Eastern Illinois University, where she studied piano and voice. While there, Cathy won virtually every academic and musical award possible. She even has the distinction of being named the university’s Outstanding Performer.
From her humble beginnings on a grain and cattle farm near Oconee, Illinois, she was catapulted to the center of an elite musical world. When she won a Rotary International Scholarship, she began studying opera at the world-renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. There she studied under the legendary Mozart soprano Wilma Lipp. Lepp helped her achieve the conservatory’s top prize for opera performance, the Lilli Lehmann Medallion. After graduating from the Mozarteum, Cathy Burns Rund was immediately engaged as a soloist at the Vienna State Opera, where she worked on operas such as The Magic Flute, Monte Carlo and Oslo.
Cathy Berns Rund will be accompanied by guest artist Steven W. Caress of Carmel, Indiana. He made his debut with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in the 2009 Carmel Fest concert. As a tenor soloist, Caress has found plenty of work in the Indianapolis art scene. Some of his credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Godspell, Handel’s Messiah, The Magic Flute, Guys and Dolls and many many more productions across central Indiana. He earned his Masters in Mathematics and Music from the University of Illinois and is the proud father to three children.
Catch these two unbelievably talented musicians, as they take the stage with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra this Saturday, December 12. For more information about tickets for Celebrate the Holidays, visit the Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s official website.
