Barbie®: The Fashion Experience

For many young girls, Barbie® is a best friend. The lady in pink empowers children and helps them use their imagination. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis opens the Barbie®: The Fashion Experience Friday, December 19, 2009 to celebrate Barbie® and decades of her fashion sense. This Indianapolis museum provides Indianapolis kids with tons of fun things to do in Indianapolis. Check out Barbie®: The Fashion Experience at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis through February of 2011.

Though the Barbie®: The Fashion Experience exhibit will be open at the Children’s Museum for a long time to come, the opening day activities offer incentive to be one of the first to experience Barbie® and her fashionable world. At the infoZone branch of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library in the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, create your own Barbie® and Ken® roadster at 2:00 pm in the activity room. Design and take home your very own Barbie® and Ken® themed roadster (while supplies last).

Once you enter the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis the fun continues on Level 1. At the Meridian Windows check out the “Fun and Fabulous Frames” activity from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Decorate a picture frame with fashion themed decorations and sparkling jewels. Also at the Meridian Windows is the “Pink Sparkle” activity from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Make your own personalized accessory. Decorate and take silver paper bracelets with designs and pink jewels. While you are there check out the “Design Your Own Fashion Vault” activity, where you can create a portfolio of clothes for Barbie®.

At the North Ramp Wall find the “Dazzling Decorations” activity from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Make an original ornament creation with Barbie® inspired decorations that are full of glitz and glamour. Celebrate the holidays Barbie® style.

On Level 2 of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Barbie® will make a very special live appearance at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Meet Barbie® in person as she helps the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis open her brand new exhibit. Take your picture with this famous fashionista and get autographs. After you see the real Barbie’s® style, find your own style at the Barbie® Exhibit: Runway and Backstage area at 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm. “The Pink Power Fashion Show” will have a team of stylists designing clothes, make-up and hair. See what it takes to put on a fashion show amidst the chaos of models and make-up. Take on a role as stylist, make-up artist, model, or even DJ as you help bring this runway show to life.

Also in Barbie®: The Fashion Experience, check out “Barbie® Fashions” at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Design your very own Barbie® doll using fashion patterns. Start by sketching your imaginations fashion desires and finish by making a piece of clothing to take home for your very own Barbie® or Ken® doll. Head to the Barbie® Exhibit Lobby to learn about “Barbie® Collecting 101″ from 10:00 to 11:00 am, 12:30 to 1:30 pm and 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Learn about Barbie’s®of the past, reasons that people collect Barbie®, and the insider secrets of the collectible Barbie® doll world.

For a very special treat meet Mattel designer Linda Kyaw in Barbie®: The Fashion Experience exhibit at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Linda Kyaw designed the one of a kind Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Barbie® doll. Ask her questions about her career as a designer and learn what it takes to design Barbie® doll fashions.

Barbie®: The Fashion Experience will take you through the world of fashion, design and creativity that create one of the United States most popular toys.
