Taj of India Restaurant: Elegant and Exotic

Say you’re in the middle of the Midwest Heartland, Indianapolis, capital of Indiana. And say you’ve developed a yearning for East Indian food that you simply cannot ignore; nothing will do but Tandoori. Are you out of luck? Do you settle for a pulled pork barbecue?

Indianapolis restaurants are as rich with diversion as the Indianapolis society, and there are many wonderful ethnic restaurants in Indianapolis, just waiting to serve you exactly what you long for. The Taj of India Restaurant in Indy is one of them.

Tandoori food is baked in a traditional clay oven called a tandoor. Meals cooked with this method retain their flavor well, because they cook in their own juices inside the tandoor. At the Taj of India Restaurant, these dishes are marinated in a Masala mixture of spiced yogurt.

You’ll find more than Tandoori at the Taj, though that is one of their specialties. Another full section of their menu is devoted to their Balti specialties, referring to a relatively new style of cooking. These curry dishes are seared quickly over a very hot flame, then marinated and later cooked and laden with typical East Indian spices such as cumin, coriander, cardamom, cloves and ginger.

Is someone in your group worried about all those spices? Everybody can relax. Chefs at the Taj make every dish individually to your order, and that includes the amount of heat in the spices.

Any good East Indian restaurant will offer a selection of lamb specialties, and the Taj of India Restaurant presents you with a dazzling one. Whether you choose the Lamb Palak, a boneless lamb dish with spinach in a light curry sauce; the Boti Ka Masala, a slow-cooked Tandoori lamb plate with a tomato and ginger based sauce or the Lamb Shahi Korma, a boneless lamb item prepared with house-made cheese, covered with a creamy cashew and raisin sauce; your taste buds will know they took a trip to the other side of the world at the Taj table.

The extensive seafood selection at the Taj of India Restaurant may surprise you. Every dish is intriguing, and each promises to deliver that unique and flavorful East Indian cuisine experience. Try the Lobster Masala or the Shrimp Vindaloo with potatoes in a tangy sauce, for some unforgettable, exotic dining.

The Taj has a super-convenient location in northeast Indianapolis, just off the I-465 and a few steps to the south of the Castleton Square Mall.
