Indianapolis Music Events 1/7 to 1/10: Hoosier Dylan, Every Avenue, and More

Last weekend, Indianapolis came alive with noisemakers, fireworks, and cheering from every one of the six Indianapolis cultural districts; that’s right, 2010 is here, and the Circle City is looking to take the new year by storm. There have been a lot of changes in the Indianapolis music scene since the turn of the century; many Indianapolis bands have formed, released definitive albums, entranced Indianapolis society, and then broken up, disappeared, never to be heard from again. In this second decade of the 21st century, we should see a new crop of shining stars in the Indianapolis music scene.

This weekend, however, is not the banner weekend for the new decade. There’s only a smattering of concerts going on this weekend in Indianapolis bars and Indianapolis nightlife venues; however, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t brave the chilly 2010 wind and venture into downtown Indianapolis. There are a few gems here that are certainly worth showing up for. Hoosier Dylan will be bringing the legendary folk singer’s music and attitudes to The Athenaeum on Saturday with the help of Jennie DeVoe and other famous Indianapolis people, while the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will be resurrecting the spirit of Tchaikovsky at Hilbert Circle Theatre this entire weekend.

This weekend, you’ll also be able to see the fruits of Indianapolis history with the cool Naptown jazz sounds of the Matt Roberts Trio and Shawn Plonski’s IJC at the Chatterbox on Thursday and Saturday. For something a bit more intense, there’s always the Emerson Theater; this weekend you can check out Every Avenue, The Radiance Effect, and others at this famous Indianapolis music venue.

Below is a short show calendar detailing some of the best Indianapolis events going on in the Circle City this weekend. Also, be sure to check out the live music videos after the calendar to get a glimpse of what you can expect from Indianapolis music events this weekend. And remember: don’t be afraid to ring in the new decade with a little dancing, moshing, or…whatever.
