Indianapolis’ Theater Within to Hold Open Auditions

Do you dream of being a star? Ever wonder what it could be like on stage in a role just for you? The Theater Within is giving Indianapolis people the chance to put their acting chops to the test. The Theater Within, of Indianapolis cultural district Fountain Square, is holding open auditions on January 17 and 18 at 7:00 pm. Their next play is Jonathan Tolins The Twilight of the Golds, a futuristic drama that explores the boundaries of family love. Performances are scheduled to take place March 12 through 27.

The Twilight of the Golds, set in1980s New York City, follows the story of the Gold family, firmly rooted for generations in the Big Apple. The play poses the question, “What if your parents knew everything about you before you were born?” When Suzanne Gold learns she is pregnant, the entire Gold family is thrilled. That is until prenatal tests present the likelihood that the new born baby will be homosexual. The entire family must evaluate the presence of bigotry in their lives. How does the nature of evolution affect the limits of love?

Wondering if there is a part in this play for you? Here is a list of roles to be filled during Sunday and Monday’s open auditions:

  • David Gold: An enchanting yet delicate gay man in his late twenties. He aspires to be a set designer and loves Wagner.
  • Suzanne Gold-Stein: A pregnant woman in her early thirties. She is David’s sister. A smart, beautiful buyer for Bloomingdale’s department store, who feels she has yet to live up her full potential.
  • Rob Stein: Suzanne’s husband, who is in his early thirties. He is an attractive and upstanding genetic researcher, yet feels like an outsider in the Gold family.
  • Phyllis Gold: The matriarch of the Gold family, in her fifties. She is a poised woman, who hides her own intelligence. Like every mother, she is constantly worrying about David and Suzanne.
  • Walter Gold: The patriarch of the Gold family. As a blunt New York businessman, he hides his sensitive side from the entire family.

Auditioners need not prepare a monologue; simply be prepared to read from the script.
