Pianist Yuja Wang Performs with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra welcomes pianist Yuja Wang back to the Hilbert Circle Theatre stage Friday, January 22 and Saturday January 23. Tickets to this Indianapolis music event range from $16.00 to $68.00. Wang takes her seat behind the ivory keys at 8:00 pm on Friday and 5:30 pm on Saturday. Conductor Cornelius Meister will lead the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra with Yuja Wang to perform Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, among other arrangements.

At only twenty two years old, Yuja Wang has turned the classical music world on its ear. Known for her spontaneity and fearless imagination which she pairs with uncompromising discipline and precision, Wang’s piano technique is unparalleled. Her talents has been described as “astounding” and “superhuman” as she tackles some of the most difficult repertoire known in the piano world. After her debut San Francisco recital The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “The arrival of Chinese born pianist Yuja Wang on the musical scene is an exhilarating and unnerving development. To listen to her in action is to re-examine whatever assumptions you may have had about how well the piano can actually be played.”

As an exclusive recording artist for Deutsche Grammophone, Yuja Wang recently released her debut album Sonatas and Etudes. The work garnered her the title of 2009 Young Artist of the Year from the Classic FM Gramophone Awards. In addition, the album was named Best Debut Album of 2009 by International Piano magazine. Since her debut in 2005  with the National Arts Center Orchestra, Wang has played with dozens of symphonies across the United States and around the world. Her list of credits include the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, the NHK Symphony in Tokyo and many more.
