Celebrate American Girl character, Josefina, at the Eiteljorg Museum’s Josefina Day in Indianapolis downtown this Saturday, January 30 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This Indianapolis event offers Indianapolis kids a hands on chance to engage with Western history and United States history. FREE to all Indianapolis people, Josefina Day is sure to be an entertaining and interesting afternoon at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.
Indianapolis kids can bring their favorite doll to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art to help them celebrate the American Girl character Josefina. Josefina Montoya is a Hispanic girl with a heart of gold. As a New Mexican girl in 1824, Josefina has dreams and hopes as big as the desert sky. After her mother’s passing, she must try to preserve the precious things in her life. When her Aunt Tia Dolores joins her family at the rancho, their ideas may clash, but Josefina is overjoyed nonetheless. Can she accept change without letting go of the old ways? Find out in the Josefina series of American Girl books: Meet Josefina, Josefina Learns a Lesson, Josefina’s Surprise, Happy Birthday, Josefina!, Josefina Saves the Day and Changes For Josefina.
At the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art’s Josefina Day, Indianapolis kids can enjoy Josefina inspired storytelling. Games and activities will keep them busy all afternoon. They can make and take a punched tin ornament, grind corn and play loteria (a traditional Mexican bingo game). Indianapolis kids can even enter to win a Josefina doll of their very own!
Plus Indianapolis performing arts will be on hand to provide entertainment. The Anderson Ballet Folklorico takes the stage at 1:30 pm presenting various folk dances from different regions of Mexico. Also, visit with artist in residence Lydia Garcia. As the most well known retablo (Latin American devotional painting) artists in New Mexico, Garcia has a lot of wisdom to share with the Indianapolis art community. The Eiteljorg Museum’s Josefina Day is the perfect opportunity for Scouts to earn their “Scouting the West” patch and cultural rocker.
