The Indiana Repertory Theatre is producing its first rolling repertory this Winter with Going Solo, a collection of one-man (or woman) shows. Going Solo at the IRT kicks off this Friday, February 9 with previews of Pretty Fire, which runs through February 22. Tickets are $44.00 for adults, $34.00 for seniors, and $19.00 for Indianapolis kids with a student ID (prices vary based on show date and time).
Written by Charlayne Woodard, Pretty Fire delves into the “Black Experience” in America. Actor and playwright Charlayne Woodard places her early life on display in this auto-biographical story of growing up black in America. The female character in Pretty Fire was written by the successful theatre professional who emerged from a secure middle class family with a strong sense of individuality. The play shares the journey she took through her early life to be able to fully grasp her sense of self.
This collection of stories of Woodard’s life will be brought to life by IRT regular, Milicent Wright, who has a history of giving fun yet powerful performances on the Indiana Repertory Theatre stage. Wright delves into five stories about little joys, dark fears, and the marvelous perplexity of childhood. From neighborhood bullies and the bleak ache of bigotry to the warmth of family and importance of community, Pretty Fire takes audiences on a fantastic journey through the fire of growing up.
