Carmel Symphony Orchestra Presents Family Fun!

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra, of Carmel, Indiana, presents Family Fun! this Sunday, February 14 for Indianapolis kids and their parents to spread the love. This interactive Indianapolis music performance begins at 3:00 pm at Westfield High School, in Westfield, Indiana. Geared toward keeping kids engaged, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra has created an innovative one of kind Indianapolis art event.

No other regional orchestra offers an experience of this kind. Enjoy some quality family time in an unusual format, as you introduce your kids to classical music. During parts of the performance, children are invited to sit on stage to watch the musicians play up close and personal. Then following the concert, Indianapolis kids (and their parents) are invited to partake in a Musical Petting Zoo. Audiences members they can try their hand at playing the instruments they just heard in action during the concert.

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra Family Fun! concert also features the winner of the 2009 Concerto Competition sponsored by the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Arthur Shou. Shou is a sophomore at Carmel High School. He will perform the first movement of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto Number 3. When Shou started playing piano at age six, his parents and the community around him recognized him instantly as an exceptional talent. He has won several awards in Indiana including the Hoosier Pianist Competition in 2005 and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Maurer Young Artists Concerto Competition in 2009.

Shou honed his talents by attending the Indiana University Summer Piano Academy for three years, where he performed with master classes. In addition, he has performed at some of the largest Indiana colleges and universities including Goshen College, Ball State University and Anderson University. He has also performed for the Indiana Historical Society. Shou is sure to inspire future musicians in the audience.

Alan Davis, President and CEO of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra discusses his enthusiasm for Family Fun! each year, “For me, this is one of the most exciting concerts we present. To watch the eyes of young children light up as they experience hearing great music is a magical moment.” He goes on to say, “I always look forward to hearing the winner of our Young Artist Competition; their talent and musicianship never cease to amaze me.”

In addition to Shou’s performance, the professional members of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra will play what they label the “Greatest Hits for Kids.” This includes arrangements from the most famous composers including Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, Rossini, Medelssohn, Dvorak and many more. With a blend of classic (the William Tell Overture) to contemporary (Star Wars theme) music, this concert is one the whole family will dig!
