Want to help support one of the hardest-working nonprofit organizations in Indianapolis? By signing up for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Indianapolis Race for the Cure, you can do just that, and pledge to work toward a healthier you at the same time.
The Indianapolis affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure is fully dedicated to raising money for breast cancer research through donations, fund raising events, merchandise sales, and more. Their biggest annual event is the Race for the Cure, held this year on Saturday, April 17th. The race will wind through the scenic streets of downtown Indianapolis and begins at the IUPUI library. Spring will have arrived in the Circle City, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by giving your all to an important cause on a sunny Saturday.
2010 marks the 19-year anniversary of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Indianapolis. This exciting Indianapolis event will be packed full of activities beginning early in the morning. First up, an inspirational opening ceremonies will set the tone for the day, and the annual Pink Parade of breast cancer survivors will follow.
A competitive timed 5-k run and a noncompetitive family 5-k run and walk will be the highlights of the day. You can also sign up for a one-mile family walk if your Indianapolis kids want to get in on the action but aren’t quite up to a 5k through the city.
As for the rest of this uplifting day of fundraising and hope, you can expand your knowledge of healthy foods and better ways to a healthy body in the Health Expo. And what fun spring event would be complete without shopping? Visit the merchandise tents, where all proceeds will be donated directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Indianapolis fffiliate.
New this year to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Indianapolis Race for the Cure is the Survivor Village, where breast cancer survivors will be welcomed, celebrated, and honored. This tent will have plenty of seating for the survivors and each will be presented with a medal commemorating their personal battle with cancer.
As you work toward your fundraising goal for this year’s Race for the Cure, make sure you check the official Susan G. Komen for the Cure Indianapolis affiliate website for more information on how to bring attention to this worthy cause. One event in particular everyone can participate in is Paint the Town Pink, a free window/building/store front decorating contest. This fun contest, which is open to all ages, will help educate Indy citizens about the frequency of breast cancer and what they can do to help.
