Indianapolis School of Ballet

The Indianapolis School of Ballet is an Indianapolis nonprofit organization that works to train dancers in all forms of dance expression. From classical ballet to modern dance, the Indianapolis School of Ballet holds itself to the highest artistic standards. By offering performance opportunities and educational outreach, the Indianapolis School of Ballet is constantly working to enhance and enrich Indianapolis culture.

The Indianapolis School of Ballet was founded as an Indianapolis dance school to keep young Hoosier dancers abreast of the advancements in American dance through the twenty first century. As the Artistic Director and Founder of the Indianapolis School of Ballet, Victoria Lyras has enumerated a number of goals for the program of dance at the Indianapolis School of Ballet. In their classes, the Indianapolis School of Ballet places emphasis on a structured ballet curriculum in order to give dancers a solid foundation on which to lay choreographic framework. They achieve this through a combination of training approaches that “typify the dynamic physicality of American classicism.

In addition to this goal, the Indianapolis School of Ballet strives to create a “vital teaching and learning environment.” By introducing students to both meticulous, concentrated instruction in classical ballet in addition to other appropriate dance forms, the Indianapolis School of Ballet has come to stand head and shoulders above other schools in Indianapolis for dance.

The Indianapolis School of Ballet offers a thirty six week program, which runs from Fall to Spring. Three main programs are offered concurrently during this thirty six weeks: the Pre-Professional Program, the Young Children’s Program and the Open Dance Program. For students who wish to dance year round, the Indianapolis School of Ballet also offers a Summer intensive from the middle of June to late July. The Summer Intensive Program is for students of all ages and offer multi week options, which make for flexible summer vacations.

In the eyes of the Indianapolis School of Ballet, all students, regardless of age or level of ability, are given the opportunity to grow as a dancer. Whether pre-school, adolescent, teenage or adult, students at the Indianapolis School of Ballet are treated seriously and taught to love the joy of dancing.
