In Indianapolis music this weekend, spring rains seem to be thawing out the icy grip that Old Man Winter has had over the Indianapolis cultural districts. As the streets of downtown Indianapolis melt, so too do the slew of Indianapolis bands who were just biding their time, waiting to emerge in the bright sunlight with new music and new shows. Unfortunately, the thaw isn’t entirely finished; there are still not as many shows as there should be in Indianapolis this weekend.
But that’s not to say that there’s nothing good going on in Indianapolis music venues this weekend. Quite the contrary; there are quite a few pretty awesome Indianapolis events that’ll be taking the stage all over the Circle City. For example, the Murat Centre, an Indianapolis performing arts venue that usually brings international superstars to the Indy stage, has not one, but two superstars performing this weekend. First up is legendary thrash metal band Megadeth, making ears bleed at the Murat on Thursday. After that, the venue takes a turn to the softer side; American crooner Norah Jones will be bringing her delicate compositions and beautiful voice to the Murat stage on Saturday.
Aside from these two headlining shows, there are other Indianapolis bands worth seeing this weekend. Dramatic orchestral rock group Murder By Death will be returning to their Indiana University hometown of Bloomington to play at The Bishop, a relatively new music venue. Two classic Indianapolis musical organizations are also performing this weekend; the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will be performing a violin concerto by Stravinski on Thursday (see highlights of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s 2010/2011 season), and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra will be playing at the Athenaeum on Friday.
