Singer songwriter David Gray jams at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis downtown Wednesday, March 24, bringing his soulful style to Indianapolis music. Tickets to this Indianapolis event range from $29.50 to $45.00. Gray brings gentle English charm to the stage as he performs his hit songs that have topped the music charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Don’t miss this sexy Brit as he sings until you swoon.
Born in 1968 in Sale, Cheshire, England, David Gray grew up in the small coastal town of Solva. His first two albums, A Century Ends and Flesh were released in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Though they were not major commercial success, they garnered him a solid following in folk-rock circles throughout the United Kingdom. His third album Sell, Sell, Sell blended his traditional use of acoustic folk music with a more modern alternative rock sound. The album was a critical success, but again failed to break into the mainstream of rock and roll.
It was not until his fourth album, White Ladder, that David Gray broke through to the mainstream. Four songs from this disc went onto top charts in the United Kingdom: “This Year’s Love,” “Babylon,” “Please Forgive Me” and “Sail Away.” When Dave Matthews heard Gray’s sound, White Ladder became the first record released by ATO Records, a label co-founded by Matthews.

Since then, David Gray has grown to be an international success, known for his smooth vocals and punchy sound. Since the release of White Ladder, he has recorded four studio albums, the latest of which is called Draw the Line. Each has reached a number one spot on charts across America. His music has been featured in a host of television shows including Smallville, Rescue Me, Scrubs, Dawson’s Creek, Psych, Boston Legal and more. His film credits include Ladder 49, 15 Minutes, Definitely, Maybe and countless others.
His concerts are an amalgamation of his talents. Though he is backed by a very talented band, Gray often finds himself flying solo on acoustic guitar or even piano. Though make no mistake, Gray is also a master of computer generated music, using electronics to enhance and challenge his own sound.
Before the concert, head to the nearby Indianapolis cultural district Mass Ave or Indianapolis downtown for some dinner.
