As the weather turns warm and Indianapolis kids find more and more free time on their hands, it can be difficult to keep kids engaged and learning. Have your Indianapolis kids take a break from television and video games this Spring Break. April 8 and 9, 2010, Conner Prairie offers their Spring Break Day Camp: Archaeology, Action and Art, an interactive experience with the outdoors in a historic setting. This exciting two day camp experience in Fishers, Indiana is geared toward kids ages six to thirteen and goes from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. Give your Indianapolis kids a chance to grow in the great outdoors this Spring Break, as they learn about the history of Hoosier land.
Camp attendees will have a chance to feel what its like to be an archaeologist. Conner Prairie’s Spring Break Day Camp, Archaeology, Action and Art, touches on the bases of an archaeological dig, and creates a simulated dig for kids to get down and dirty in. Campers will board a tractor, their transportation to the “dig” site. Once their, they will employ their new found skills to uncover artifacts, which they can take home. Experts will be on hand to share tips and tricks, as campers dig for treasure. Unearth an artifact and try to reassemble it. (Note: The archaeological dig is simulated. Campers will not find authentic artifacts.)
A visit to the Lenape Indian Camp is sure to bring about some action. Campers will canoe on the pond and build a wigwam to understand the authentic life of Native Americans in the 17th century. Campers can model their wigwam structures after the ones in the Lenape Indian Camp, try their hand at a Tomahawk Throwing Contest, and relax as they take in an old Indian tale in the Storyteller’s Cabin.
After a trip to the Lenape Indian Camp, campers will have a chance to stroll through Prairietown, where they will meet with a potter in his studio. Kids can take a seat at the pottery wheel, and try their hand at shaping clay. Each camp participant will have the chance to make their very own artistic treasure. Let your Indianapolis kids keep learning this Spring Break, as they take a step back from typical Indianapolis education in various Indianapolis schools. A two day Spring Break Day Camp at Conner Prairie, Archaeology, Action and Art, will refresh and stimulate the minds of Indianapolis kids.
Campers should bring with them each day a sack lunch, drink and water bottle (to be kept with them all day) that do not require refrigeration. Conner Prairie staff recommends small soft sided coolers. Each afternoon, campers will share s’mores around the fire, which are provided by the Spring Break Day Camp. Enrollment for the Conner Prairie Spring Break Day Camp, Archaeology, Action and Art, is $55.00 per person ($50.00 for members of this interacting Indianapolis museum). Make your reservation today!
