As summer approaches, so too does the Indiana State Fair. In just four short months, the Indiana State Fair will take over the Indiana State Fairgrounds once more. But in that time, the Indiana State Fairgrounds has the chance to play host to a myriad of other Indianapolis events. Each weekend the Indiana State Fairgrounds buzzes with Hoosiers sharing interests and ideas. This weekend at the Indiana State Fairground the Hoosier Antique Expo, Naptown Roller Derby Double Header, a Midwest Reptile Show and the JVA Indy Juniors Classic. Read on for a preview of these exciting events for the Indianapolis community.
Hoosier Antique Expo
The Hoosier Antique Expo takes over the West Pavilion of the Indiana State Fairground Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18, 2010. Started in 1969, the Hoosier Antique Expo is the oldest continually running show in Indiana. This Indianapolis shopping event offers high end antiques at relatively affordable prices. Vendors are expected to bring a wide assortment of antiques including pottery and porcelain, silver, jewelry, toys, dolls, oriental rugs, vintage clothing, textiles country things and furniture.
The Hoosier Antique Expo is known as one of the most affordable, quality antique shows in the country. Plus with such a wide range of items to peruse, antique collectors, designers and people looking for home decor are bound to make out like bandits. Items that might be found range from some of the top Silver dealers, bronzes, pattern glass, hand painted porcelain, pottery, majolica, flow blue, jewelry, Tiffany lamps, art glass, cut glass, royal doulton, dolls, linen, Oriental rugs, Civil War items, toys and walnut and oak furniture.

Naptown Roller Derby
The Naptown Roller Girls take over the Pepsi Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds this Saturday, April 17, 2010. Their latest event, “Fury on the Flat Track,” offers double header derby action. It also marks their final bout of season 4. The Naptown Roller Girls’ Warning Belles will kick off this Indianapolis sports event with a brutal bout against the Ohio Roller Girls Gang Green. After a smashing success from the Warning Belles (we hope), stick around for bout number two.
The Naptown Roller Girls’ Torando Sirens take the rink against the Ohio Roller Girls All Stars. This bout marks the third time this season that these ladies have duked it out on wheels. In their first match up last June, the All Stars beat the Tornado Sirens on their home turf. But last March, the Tornado Sirens were out for revenge. They mastered the All Stars. Now both teams are hoping for bragging rights, settling once and for all, who the best roller derby team is. Don’t miss this fierce fight at the Indiana State Fairgrounds’ Pepsi Coliseum.
Tickets the bout are only $12.00 in advance, $17.00 at the door (cash only. Military personnel with ID can purchase up to two tickets for $8.00 each. Indianapolis kids six and under will be admitted for FREE. Doors to the rink open at 5:00 pm. The bouts begin at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Midwest Reptile Show
The Midwest Reptile Show returns, once again, to the Indiana State Fairgrounds and the Clarian Healthy Lifestyles Pavilion Saturday, April 17, 2010. This Indianapolis show is for Hoosiers who love all things scaly. Reptiles owners are some of the most dedicated pet owners in the United States. The Midwest Reptile Show at the Indiana State Fairgrounds helps these dedicated individuals provide the best for their scaly friend. With a wide range of accessories, habitats, meals and even new friends, the Midwest Reptile Show is a Reptilian Heaven.
With more than thirty vendors on hand to share their products with interested consumers, this Indianapolis event offers a great selection of stuff for your pet. JVA Indy Junior Classic
The Junior Volleyball Association’s Junior Classic takes over the Toyota Blue Ribbon Pavilion Saturday and Sunday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. These ladies are fierce on the volleyball court, ready to prove themselves as the highly trained athletes that they are. For some fine athleticism and sportsmanship, take in the games at the Junior Volleyball Association’s Junior Classic this Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18, 2010.
