Power Recycling at the Indianapolis Zoo

The Indianapolis Zoo shines a light on recycling this Earth Day weekend, in an effort to inspired Hoosiers to get in the habit of giving back to the Planet. The Indianapolis Zoo understands that electronics offer many conveniences and luxuries, but hopes to spread the news about the high cost we pay for these gadgets. In 2008, Americans disposed of 1.84 million tons of electronic equipment into landfills across the nation. Only 18% of all unused electronics were collected to be recycled. With waste like this filling the nation’s underbelly, Americans are sure to run out of space for garbage. Not to mention the harmful effects to the environment these products have when left to degrade.

At last the Indianapolis Zoo’s Power Recycling event last year, participants of the disposed of seventeen tons of electronics. This was a promising start to a bright new future for the United States. In light of their success last year, the Indianapolis Zoo has made Power Recycling an annual Earth Day event, hoping to attract electronics for recycling from across central Indiana. Indianapolis people can bring their electronics to the Indianapolis Zoo Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Let’s see what a difference Hoosiers can make two years running.

Most electronics, including microwaves, cell phones, computers, iPods, etc., will be accepted at the Indianapolis Zoo, giving Indianapolis residents an opportunity to dispose of these materials in an environmentally friendly way. The Indianapolis Zoo partners with BrightPoint Inc. for this special Indianapolis event. This partnership is determined to bring about environmental change in the Circle City.

BrightPoint Inc. is a global Fortune 500 company. Their interest in helping the Indianapolis Zoo further its conservation mission has rocketed this program to success. With additional help from Shred Monkey, and onsite shredding service, Power Recycling at the Indianapolis Zoo will be able to help participants shred important and unwanted documents, in order to clear out old files.

There is no need to feel any hesitation about the privacy of your information, as the Indianapolis Zoo’s Power Recycling team will double swipe clean all computer hard drives prior to their destruction. Aside from a $5.00 processing fee for television and monitors, all services are FREE at this Indianapolis event.
