The Indianapolis Senior Center, located in Indianapolis downtown, enhances the lives of adults over fifty five with fun programing, health, recreation and educational activities. This Friday, April 23 marks the opening of their third annual Spring play. The Indianapolis Senior Center presents Harvey to Indianapolis theatre April 23 through May 1. Don’t miss this exciting Indianapolis performing arts event that will showcase the talents of Indianapolis’ senior citizen thespians! Tickets are $10.00 for members of the Indianapolis Senior Center and $15.00 for non-members. The show begins at 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 24 and Friday, April 30 and at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 25 and Saturday, May 1.
Indianapolis artists come in all shapes, sizes, genders and ages. The Indianapolis Senior Center aims to prove that the golden years mean more than pudding and Wheel of Fortune. Watch as these talented members of Indianapolis society join their strengths to produce the classic 1944 play Harvey at the Indianapolis Senior Center this weekend.
Harvey tells the story of the affable Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary friend Harvey, a six foot three and one half inch tall rabbit. When Elwood begins to bring Harvey along to his sister Veta’s fancy society parties, she finds his relationship with Harvey to be extremely inappropriate. As Elwood introduces Harvey to all of the high society guests, Veta decides she will no longer tolerate her brothers eccentricity. She commits him to a sanitarium to spare her family from further embarrassment.
However, when Veta takes Elwood to the sanitarium, the doctors mistakenly commit her in his place. When the truth finally comes out, after chaos and hilarity has already ensued, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible friend. When Elwood finally turns up, looking for of all people Harvey, it seems his imagination has had a strange effect on a few of the doctors and nurses on staff. Will Harvey turn up? Will Veta accept her brother, delusions and all? Find out at the Indianapolis Senior Centers production of Harvey.
Harvey at the Indianapolis Senior Center stars Matthew Roland, Micki Caughey, Bill Culley, Douglas (Doub) Garcia, Maureen O’Leary, Jean Ondrusek, Lisa Marie Smith, Dee Sturdivant, David Tanner and Sean Winningham. Though this Indianapolis nonprofit organization focuses on featuring senior members of the Indianapolis community on stage, all ages were welcome to audition. The cast reflects a mix of casting.
