If you live in Indianapolis and were worried about missing 10 Years, Flyleaf, and Fair to Midland on their Unite & Fight Tour, you’ll get to see the next best thing in May. Two of the three bands, 10 Years and Fair to Midland, will be splitting off to perform a few shows around the United States; the first of these is on May 17 at the Emerson Theater, the Indianapolis music venue of choice for the heavier side of the Circle City.

The Emerson Theater, located off of 10th street in Indianapolis, has always been a haven for the hardest Indianapolis music. Nationally touring acts unite with smaller Indianapolis bands to rip out eardrums, crush skulls, tear vocal cords, and spray scalp sweat over enthusiastic audiences with hours and hours of headbanging. Death metal bands like Summon the Destroyer, hardcore bands like Haste the Day, and punk bands like Sloppy Seconds all call this dimly lit dive home turf, and you can always count on a few surprises at the famed Indianapolis attraction.
10 Years should be no exception to the long line of blissfully heavy bands that routinely pass through the Emerson. Formed in Tennessee in 1999, 10 Years have carved out a reputation for themselves as a heavy hitting, radio friendly, post-grunge force. They have had several small successes in United States and Indianapolis media, including “Wasteland” and “Through the Iris” off of their 2005 release, The Autumn Effect. “Wasteland” topped the Billboard Modern Rock and Alternative charts in 2006; both “Wasteland” and “Through the Iris” were eventually certified gold. 10 Years has released four albums: Into the Half Moon (2001), Killing All That Holds You (2004), The Autumn Effect (2005), and Division (2008). The band has toured with Korn, Hatebreed, Breaking Benjamin, Mudvayne, and more; their fifth album, Feeding the Wolves, is set for a spring 2010 release.
Also playing with 10 Years at the Emerson on May 17 will be Eyes on Fire, No1Zero, and Unite & Fight tour mates Fair to Midland. Eyes on Fire is an Indianapolis metal band who just released a new album, Anger to Ashes, and advanced to the final round of the battle of the bands at Birdy’s Bar & Grill. No1Zero was formed in 2006 in Indy and cite influences as diverse as Led Zeppelin and Godsmack; they released their self-titled debut in 2008 and have shared the stage with Chevelle, Tantric, Saliva, Pop Evil, Nonpoint, and more. Fair to Midland is a progressive metal band that formed in 1998; they have released three albums, an EP, and are working on their fourth full length, set for a 2011 release.
If you’ve got a hankering for some good, heavy rock, head on out to the Emerson on May 17 to see 10 Years, Fair to Midland, Eyes on Fire, and No1Zero. Tickets can be purchased online and start at $15; doors to this 21+ Indianapolis event open at 6:30 p.m.
