This weekend in Indianapolis music, the Circle City gears up for the Indianapolis 500, and radio rock will pack the house in Noblesville. As we inch closer and closer to the most insane Indianapolis event to grace Central Indiana, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be coming alive with the sounds of revving engines, cheering fans, and screaming electric guitars. Indianapolis is hosting several musical events in conjunction with Indy 500 events, two of which are this weekend.
First is the Indy 500 Fast Friday Practice, in which all the Indy 500 racers come together to test their mettle on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the big run next weekend. Sharing the Speedway with these Indianapolis sports stars will be Seymour, Indiana based The Elms; their hit single, “Back to Indiana,” first aired during the 2009 Indianapolis 500, so it’s only fitting that they’ll play at Fast Friday. Also playing at Fast Friday will be the John E. Gee Band, headed by the former Ted Nugent bassist. Then, on Sunday, you can see which drivers will make the Indy 500 cut while listening to local Indianapolis bands No More Goodbyes and Rapid Fire during the Indy 500 Bump Day.
On Saturday, radio rock fans will have a ball at the Verizon Wireless Music Center, which will likely see its largest crowd in the past several months. Nickelback’s Dark Horse Tour will be taking the stage for several hours of repetitively anthemic choruses, predictable solos, and faux-heavy riffs. Playing with Nickelback will be fellow nu-metal bands Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, and Sick Puppies. The whole deal promises to be a pretty lucrative affair; listeners of X103 will be out in droves, while rock fans everywhere will likely make the trip up from downtown Indianapolis to see their favorite radio stars in the flesh.
