Nickelback hails from Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The group was formed in 1995 by Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and then drummer Brandon Kroeger, who has since been replaced by Daniel Adair. The group got their start in 1996 with the release of their first album Curb, which the band produced independently. They followed it up with their second album The State, which gained them recognition from EMI and Roadrunner Records, who quickly signed them. However, it wasn’t until 2001 that Nickelback was propelled into mainstream success with their album Silver Side Up, which contained their first hit single “How You Remind Me.”
Though Nickelback is famous for its contributions to rock music, the band has had many forays into various genres such as pop, country, hard rock and post grunge. As one of the most commercially successful Canadian groups, Nickelback has sold more than 30 million records worldwide. They rank as the 11th best selling musical act of the 2000s and the 2nd best selling foreign act in the United States in the 2000s, second only to the Beatles.
Since 1996, the band has released six albums, the most recent of which is Dark Horse in 2008. They have won two American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, twelve Juno Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards and have been nominated for a Grammy Award six times. Nickelback’s Dark Horse Tour shares the name of their latest album and kicked off in February of 2009. Touring Europe, Australia and North America, they have shared their music with thousands of fans.
Don’t miss Nickelback’s Dark Horse Tour in Indiana this Saturday. As the tour wraps up in early June with a final trip through their home nation, the band is assumed to be out of the limelight while they work on upcoming projects. It may be a while before Nickelback fans get a chance to see their favorite group again.
