Love the spirit of May in Indy, but aren’t big on the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race (the Indy 500) itself? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. If the thought of watching cars try to pass each other on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for hours in the hot sun doesn’t thrill you, there are still plenty of ways to soak up the party atmosphere this weekend.
The month of May in the Circle City is nonstop fun, and this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday promise to be the most exciting days of the summer so far. Memorial Day in Indianapolis means lots of black and white and racing paraphernalia galore, but it also means celebs in town, parties and fundraisers, and loads of live entertainment for the Indianapolis music fans.
There are a couple of race parties going on downtown that don’t have much to do with sports, but have plenty to do with fun. If your goal this weekend is to mingle with singles and maybe spot a celebrity or two, then your best bet is to to head to the Fantasy 500 VIP Race Party, sponsored by RadioNow 100.9 FM. This gala promises the best of the best in town, including an open bar all night along and the promise of an appearance by Kim Kardashian. If your goal in life is to see a Kardashian sister up close, you might as well take advantage of the opportunity to meet the most famous one in person.
The fun starts on Saturday night, May 28 at 9:00 p.m., and the most enthusiastic of the revelers won’t leave until after 3:00 a.m. Party into the wee hours with Mario Lopez and Cat Sadler as your hosts, and enjoy drinks, dancing, and hors d’euvres. There will even be a performance by live aerialists. One thing you can count on–this party won’t be boring. It’s at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in the heart of downtown Indianapolis on Monument Circle; definitely plan to arrive early for a parking spot.
And no party that promises to be the hottest in the city would be complete without a rival. To check out Indy’s other biggest Saturday night extravanaganza, head to the WZPL FM 99.5 Website to check out details on the Playboy Golf Party at Ice Ultra Lounge. It’s hosted by former Hoosier Carlos Diaz from Extraand a bevvy of PlayBoy bunnies. If you’re having trouble dragging your guy out for a night on the town, he might change his tune once he hears he can meet the hosts of this particular party. Or just tell him he can pick: the party, or opening weekend of Sex and the City with you and your girls. I’m pretty sure the party will suddenly look much more appealing.
Don’t feel like partying hard, but still want to get out and enjoy the excitement of the weekend? In addition to promising a glimpse of a famous celeb or two, RadioNow is sponsoring a free concert Saturday night right on Monument Circle. The Camp Freddy Concert will feature special musical guests including Dave Navarro. So head downtown to enjoy the concert first, and if you’re up for it, brave the crowds at one of the dueling race parties after.
No matter how you end up celebrating Memorial Day Weekend, be safe, appoint a designated driver, and prepare to usher in summer in Naptown with good friends, good food, and, if you’re lucky, a Jack Nicolson sighting. (No word on if he’ll be at a party, but you can bet he’ll be in attendance at the race.) Take advantage of the flurry of activity downtown and make sure to soak up the atmosphere this holiday weekend!
