Everyone needs a place where they can go to get away from the world, a place to relax with his or her favorite drink, an interesting book, and good company. For many Indianapolis residents, that place is Lazy Daze Coffee House, located in the Irvington neighborhood on the east side of the Circle City. Lazy Daze Coffee House is the recipient of tons of awards from Indianapolis media outlets and coffee shop connoisseurs alike, mostly for its casual, inviting atmosphere and the wealth of Indianapolis events that take place here every weekend.

This Indianapolis business has certainly earned its spot as one of the top hangouts in Indy. Awards adorning the walls of Lazy Daze Coffee House include Best Coffee House by NUVO Newsweekly in 2009, a spot on the Channel 6 WRTV A-List in 2007 and 2008, and 2006’s Best Coffee House from Indianapolis Monthly magazine. There’s a reason Lazy Daze Coffee House has been voted the best in the business: its drinks are delicious, the staff is chatty and fast, and the atmosphere is unmatched. The walls of the shop are always adorned with pieces by Indianapolis artists, both burgeoning newcomers and established Indianapolis arts favorites.
Lazy Daze Coffee House, far from being a simple hangout spot, is also a haven for Indianapolis performing arts. Mellow Indianapolis bands make appearances here every weekend, covering all sorts of genres, from roots rock to bluegrass. Musicians usually play at Lazy Daze Coffee House on Friday and Saturday, though sometimes Indianapolis music events take place during the week as well. You won’t find any loud, high energy groups like Summon the Destroyer, Stereo Deluxe, or Mudkids at Lazy Daze Coffee House; most performers play acoustic shows here, and backing bands are normally kept to two or three members. Acts seen at Lazy Daze Coffee House include Snorb, Aaron Work, Stealing Sleep, Sean Hannigan, Brandon Whyde, and more.

Literary events are also commonplace at Lazy Daze Coffee House. For two hours every Thursday evening, Lazy Daze Coffee House hosts “In the Company of Shakespeare,” an open mic event for Indianapolis poets. “In the Company of Shakespeare” takes place on the outside patio days when it doesn’t rain, so passerby can hear the latest works by Indianapolis’ literary community. The stage is open to all poets, both great and small, so it’s a great place to hear a huge variety of styles converge.
