Now that the excitement of May in Indy has officially come to a close, you may be on the lookout for another fun Indianapolis event to attend. Summer in the Hoosier state is always full of outdoor activities, and this year is no exception. Start off the fun with a gulp at the Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Festival this Saturday, June 5, in downtown Indianapolis.
Held each June, this annual affair in Military Park is one of the most eagerly anticipated of the summer. Enjoy the sights and sounds of a warm Midwest weekend as you sip some of the best vino in the state, courtesy of more than 25 Indiana wineries. This award-winning festival is heading into its 11th year, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever.
If you’re a wine and cheese lover, as well as an Indianapolis music fan, this is a can’t miss-event. More than 100 wines from local wineries will be available for sampling, along with delicious fare from culinary experts and some of the Circle City’s favorite restaurants. The festival will begin bright and early, rain or shine. Make sure to get up and going to get the best spot in line; the day begins at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 7:00 p.m.
Even if you’re not a wine lover, there will be plenty of fun to keep you occupied, so head on out and mingle anyway! From wine and cheese pairings to instructions on how to prepare a holiday meal to grilling demonstrations for those long summer evenings, you can learn about more than how to enjoy a glass of vino at the Vintage Indiana Food and Wine Festival. Live music from favorite Indianapolis musicians Jennie DeVoe, John McLaughlin, and NeedToBreathe will provide an upbeat soundtrack for the fun.
In addition, experts from the Indy Wine Trail and the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail will be on hand to teach you all you need to know about this history of wineries in Indiana. If you’ve never had a leisurely afternoon trek along these premier winery tours, you’re missing out. Gather information on both and make sure to commit to at least one over the summer; completing one of these trails is a must for any true Midwestern wine lover.
Having trouble finding a babysitter? No problem; just bring your Indianapolis kids along with you to Vintage Indiana Wine and Food Festival. Kids of all ages are welcome, and there is an interactive KidZone for those who aren’t old enough to partake in the day’s main activity.
