Indianapolis festival season approaches as many Indianapolis businesses and Indianapolis nonprofit organizations come together in the warm Summer air to celebrate shared interests. Festivals are a time honored tradition for Hoosiers, and Summertime is the time to celebrate. June 4 and 5 marks the 6th Annual Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival, an experience of fiber arts like no other. With FREE admission and parking, tons of great vendors, classes, activities and competitions, the Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival is a two day Indianapolis event packed to the brim with fun. Don’t miss this exciting Indianapolis art happening.
The Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival is a time for lovers of knitting, weaving, crocheting and other similar craft activities to come together, share the tricks of the trade and stock up on premium materials. More than eighty vendors will be on hand with a range of products to share with interested patrons. Whether you are looking for fleeces, high quality yarn from a variety of animal hairs, spindles, finished items or the tools to do it yourself, the vendors at the Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival have it all.
Friday and Saturday are packed full of classes from some of the most qualified instructors in fiber arts in central Indiana. Seminars include rug hooking, hand spinning, an exploration of cotton, spinning woolen or worsted, orenburg knitted lace, felted yarns, color harmonies, 2D needle felting and more. With centuries of combined experience behind them, the qualified instructors will happily and gently guide you through various fiber arts processes, setting you on the path to making your own fiber arts in no time.
The Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival also offers action in a set of competitions in Fleece, Skein and Art. The skein competition is open to both beginning and experienced spinners, divided into two categories. Two ounce skeins of hand made yarn will be judged on a variety of standards to determine who has the best hand for spinning in each category. Fiber Art makers can also submit finished work to the Fiber Art Competition including knitting, weaving, crochet, needle felting, wet felting, knit or crochet and fulled. The fleece competition is open to owners of sheep, llamas and alpacas looking to share their fleece with this specialized Indianapolis community.
In an era of instantaneous and pre made activities, it is even more important to involve ourselves in the “grass roots” heritage of the Hoosier state. The Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival offers a chance to take a step back in time and savor the delightful process of making something from nothing. Help celebrate one of nature’s most amazing renewable resources! The Hoosier Hills Fiber Arts Festival gets underway Friday at noon and again on Saturday at 9:00 am. It takes over the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Franklin, Indiana.
