The indyFringe Theatre Festival is slowly approaching, day by day. As August and one of the most outrageous Indianapolis festivals approach, the organizers of indyFringe are hoping to slowly but surely pump up an audience of open minded theatre goers. As an appetizer to our indyFringe Festival entree, the indyFringe Building presents Red Bastard June 18 and 19, an interactive theatrical experience that pokes fun at pompous theatricality. For one weekend only, the indyFringe building welcomes a show like no other. Tickets to this Indianapolis event are $20.00. Show times are at 8:00 pm both evenings.
Red Bastard has been hailed as “dangerously seductive comedy,” and its on the prowl in the Indianapolis theatre community June 18 and 19. After five star reviews and sold out performances across the United States, Canada and Europe, Red Bastard finally shares his devilish show with Indianapolis people. America’s premiere buffoon unleashes a pompous theatrical master class on unsuspecting audiences, in a critically acclaimed show. With one mission on his mind (to charm, disarm, shock and seduce), Red Bastard comes after his prime target: You!
Though his clownish antics may give him away as such, Red Bastard is not a clown. His mission statement has no room to “please” his audience. Rather, he has come to play them like a devil does a fiddle. Experience this exquisite monstrosity as he delicately leads you through a no holds barred theatrical master class. With one existential query on his mind, he demands to know nothing less than “Who the hell do you think you are?” As he crosses lines and garners laughs, Red Bastard presents an interactive feast of biting wit, improvisation and physical prowess.
Red Bastard is pure id pumped with hot air and disguised in a beguiling coat of red. Half man, half demon, this imp springs forth from a subconscious that has come to take the piss out of the audience. By donning the mask of an elitist movement teacher, Red Bastard instructs in the “theatre of life.” An incredible mover, master of improvisation and self proclaimed “provocateur,” Red Bastard covers every inch of the stage, moving his enormous red belly and ass with the grace of a pixie.
“I saw Red Bastard at Toronto Fringe Festival last summer, where he was selected patrons pick and critics pick, and I immediately knew I must get him to Indy,” says indyFringe executive director Pauline Moffat. “We have nothing like him here, you must see it to believe it. He couldn’t come during the festival, but we were lucky to now have a theatre where we could bring him in for a weekend.”
See the show the New York Times called, “Very, very funny.” Backstage Magazine raved, “Here’s the real deal folks. . . New exciting. . .fantastic creation. . .This guy is one of the hottest, funniest performance artists on the scene today. Fanatics like us will be lining up early. And the Hollywood Reporter said, “Red Bastard earned outrageous laughs with a mix of physical comedy, jokes and audience interaction.”
Audiences should prepare themselves for anything to happen in this interactive show, as Red Bastard engages the audience in raw conversation, uncovering ridiculous and disturbing truths. Don’t miss this exciting Indianapolis performing arts event at the indyFringe Theatre in Indianapolis downtown.
