Symphony On the Prairie Celebrates Science Fiction with Sci-Fi Spectacular

Conner Prairie and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra continue their partnership to produce this summer’s Marsh Symphony on the Prairie. This weekend the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra presents a Sci-Fi Spectacular at the Marsh Symphony on the Prairie with Star Trek star George Takei. This Indianapolis music event features a vast repertoire of inter-galactic music. Tickets to this Indianapolis event are $21.00 for Indianapolis people and $10.00 for Indianapolis kids. Tables for ten are available for purchase at $49.00 per table, each member of your party must also purchase admission tickets.

High flying films like Up, Avatar, Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey have captured the hearts and imaginations of the entire United States. The thrilling soundtracks in these films set the scene for adventures beyond imaginations. Adding to the fabric of fantastical story telling, these movie soundtracks enhance our experience and understanding of these science fiction stories. Be enthralled once more by music from the sci-fi films we love as played by hte Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

As the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra shares this chilling music, actor George Takei will share his talents as he narrates from The Day the Earth Stood Still. Together Takei with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at his back will create an entirely new science fiction experience, blending famous music with a famous story of a humanoid alien visitor, who comes to Earth with a warning.

Takei will take audiences through the story of the flying saucer, with lands in Washington DC. Though the alien pilot declares he is on a mission of good will, he is nonetheless treated as hostile. In his mission to share a message with the world, the alien Klaatu must learn about the species he has come to save. Facing only violence among earthlings, Klaatu’s warning to the people of earth to tame their aggression in space is timely. “The decision rests with you,” he says in his final moments as he boards his spaceship and departs for home.

As Mr. Sulu in the original Star Trek television and film series, George Takei has become a god in the science fiction world. With more than forty feature films and hundreds of television guest starring roles to his credit, Takei has quite a reputation for success. The legend received his own star on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame in 1986 and placed his signature and hand print at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in 1991.

Most recently Takei took on the role of Hiro’s father in the hit NBC’s television series Heroes. In addition, he is a regular on The Howard Stern Radio Show on Sirius XM radio. An in demand voice actor, Takei was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Spoken Word or Non-Musical Recording.” Hear him share a story with Indianapolis people at Conner Prairie in Fishers, Indiana, backed by the talents of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
