Holliday Park: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Holliday Park takes its turn hosting the Movies in the Park series sponsored by Indy Parks and Recreation. Saturday, July 17 at dusk, Holliday Park will be transformed into an outdoor movie theatre with the feature film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on the marquee. This computer animated film is based on the children’s book of the same name by Judi Barret and Ron Barret. The quirky movie features the voice talents of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Lauren Graham, Al Roker and Will Forte.

It shares the story of one small island town, Swallow Falls, located under the A in Atlantic Ocean on the world map. When the town’s sardine based economy collapses, everyone is forced to eat the unwanted sardines and nothing else. That is until one young scientist, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) takes it upon himself to invent the solution to their problems. His machine, which converts water molecules into food, is another in a long line of failed attempts like Spray on Shoes, Hair Un Balder, the Monkey Thought Translator and Rat Birds. Without enough electricity in his own home, he can’t test his latest diet saving device.

When Flint’s pet monkey Steve (Neil Patrick Harris), hooks up the machine to the town’s power station, it takes off like a rocket disappearing into space and angering the townspeople. As he escapes the mob, he meets Sam Sparks (Anna Faris), a weather intern whose big break was ruined by the “rocket.” That is until the pair witness giant purple clouds raining cheeseburgers all over Swallow Falls. All the food the people of Swallow Falls could want rains down on them, but as Flint attempts to deal with his new found fame, disaster is just around the corner.

Find out what happens this Saturday, July 17 at Holliday Park near the Indianapolis cultural district, Broad Ripple Village, at dusk. Pack a picnic, a blanket or some chairs and the kids and head out to this entirely FREE Indianapolis event!
