As the seasons prepare to enter their annual transition from summer to fall, Conner Prairie says, Why not come out and play at the Conner Prairie Country Fair next weekend? It’s going to be tons of fun, and a fine way to wrap up summer in the great outdoors.
Activities include Historic Base Ball, sack races, the hayride, the Tent of Wonders (with a fortune teller, tattooed lady and the ever-popular bearded lady), a nail-driving contest, a tug-of-war competition, a tomahawk-throwing contest, the Tractor Parade, and more. This year at the Conner Prairie Country Fair, pony rides and a pie-eating contest have been added to the festivities.

Delicious fair foods like caramel apples, funnel cakes and kettle corn will be available, and live music by the Witch Hazel Valley People and Blackberry Jam – the Folk Band. The Power Show is always a favorite, with authentic steam engines and antique tractors to check out and their owners to talk to. Then there’s the Hard Times Theatre Company with their old-time Medicine Show to enjoy.
If you’re one of the first twenty to register for the Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull, you’ll win free tickets for four to the County Fair. The Pedal Tractor Pull is presented by WFMS 95 FM radio; you can register online at the WFMS 95.5 website.
These summer days, the Conner Prairie 1859 Balloon Voyage is in full flight too. Whether you win or not, Sid the Science Kid will be available to meet you and your curious kids that Sunday. You must register before midnight on Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
Along with the Country Fair, your entry ticket also gets you into the historic exhibits that made the Conner Prairie Living History Museum famous across Indiana. The Museum Center exhibits, Prairie Town, the Conner Homestead, the Lenape Indian Camp, Liberty Corner, a working sorghum mill, the Apple Store and more are all open to you during your visit. Conner Prairie is located in Fishers, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. It is the number one attraction in Fishers, and tops among the many renowned Indianapolis attractions, nearby.
Imagine what a country fair must have been like back in the days of the pioneers. You’ll enjoy a nostalgic day in the same pleasant atmosphere, with plenty of fun things to do all around you and no rush to do them. The celebration of bountiful agriculture will permeate your visit. You and your tribe will return home sated, happy, energized, and perhaps a little bit sunburned, all ready to welcome the upcoming change of season along with the changing foliage.
