Becoming a member at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is almost a no brainer. Not only does it get you regular access to one of the best Indianapolis museums, there are also plenty of other perks to membership. Members get tons of free stuff, from magazines about the museum and Southern/Native American art to parking, they get discounts at other Indianapolis attractions and museums around the United States, and they also get invited to plenty of Indianapolis events during the course of the year. The Eitlejorg Museum benefits from dues paid by their loyal members, so once every year the museum returns the favor by hosting a Member Appreciation Day. Members of the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art rejoice: the 2010 Member Appreciation Day is coming up on Saturday, October 2.
The 2010 Member Appreciation Day at the Eiteljorg Museum of Western Art starts at 10:00 in the morning and runs until 3:00 p.m., a full afternoon of freebies, perks, and exclusive offers at the Indianapolis attraction. There will be two tours of the relatively new Quest for the West art show and sale, both led by John Vanausdall, the president and CEO of the Eiteljorg Museum. Quest for the West just opened on September 11; it is the only Western art sale east of the Mississippi, and art lovers from around the United States flock to Indianapolis. The Indianapolis art sale is a major event every year, and only members get to experience the special tour by the current head of the Eiteljorg Museum.

Members taking advantage of the 2010 Member Appreciation Day at the Eiteljorg Museum will also get take part in some unique cultural experiences. Bring your Indianapolis children to the R.B. Annis Western Family Experience exhibit at the museum on Member Appreciation Day to witness special vignettes in the exhibit’s art studio. The Western Experience gives guests hands on fun through plenty of interactive activities, like totem pole building, weaving, and constructing a sod wall (it’s more fun than it sounds), but only members can appreciate the one day only vignettes.
For fans of the weekly Community Drum Circle at the Eiteljorg Museum, the best part of the museum’s Member Appreciation Day will most likely be the community round dance at Clowes Memorial Hall. The only event that doesn’t actually take place in the museum itself, Western art and traditional Navajo dance is the focus of this gathering of museum lovers at the Indianapolis performing arts venue. Run by Eiteljorg regular Tony Showa, the community round dance will be a great way to rub elbows, dance, and laugh with other museum patrons, culture lovers, and history buffs like yourself. Members of the Eiteljorg Museum get free access to this event in honor of Member Appreciation Day.
These Indianapolis events are probably the biggest draw of the Eiteljorg Museum’s Member Appreciation Day, but other special perks members will be taking place all day on October 2. There will be prize drawings held throughout the day for lucky Eiteljorg members; you could win big just by showing up! On top of the drawing, members will also get smaller, free gifts by attending.
