Liza Minnelli has performed on stage, on the silver screen, and for millions of viewers on television. She has performed at the London Palladium, as a nightclub singer at the Shoreham Hotel, and on Broadway, but there’s one place she hasn’t yet performed over the course of her long singing and acting career: Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis. Minnelli was slated to perform at the famous Indianapolis theater on October 30, but the show was unexpectedly canceled to the dismay of Indianapolis music fans. However, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, Indy residents will once again get the chance to hear Liza Minelli in person when she performs with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra at the vaunted Indianapolis music venue. And if you were planning on going to the October 30 show before it was canceled, you’re in luck; tickets to the originally planned concert will still be honored on January 12.

The daughter of famous actress Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli first hit the big time on the silver screen, when she played Sally Bowles in the 1972 version of Cabaret, a role that won her her first Academy Award. From there, Minelli’s epic singing voice, ineffable charm, and dominating stage presence catapulted her to the top of the entertainment industry, earning her stints on Broadway, a prolific recording career, and television roles, including a popular recurring guest spot on the sitcom Arrested Development. Throughout her career, Liza Minnelli has racked up an Academy Award, five Golden Globe nominations (two of which she won), three Tony Awards, and a Grammy Legend Award for her lifetime achievements. Her performance on Wednesday will be her first in an Indianapolis music venue, and she’ll be singing all of her favorites, from “Dancing in the Dark” to “Cabaret.”
