Phone Whore and Victorian Comedy at IndyFringe Theatre

The IndyFringe Theatre is known for bringing edgy shows to Indianapolis theatre. . . this weekend is no exception. IndyFringe Theatre presents Phone Whore and The Absinthe Minded Professors to Indianapolis April 21 to 24. These fringey shows are both very different and extraordinary in their own ways. Tickets for both are only $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Don’t miss these racy and raucous shows at the IndyFringe Theatre.

Phone Whore

Phone Whore comes to the Circle City after a successful run in Canada, where it gained notoriety in the Ottawa Fringe Festival earning Judges’ Honorable Mention. Playwright and performer Cameryn Moore has made the rounds on the national fringe circuit. At the 2010 San Francisco Fringe Festival, she won the hearts of audiences and the award for Best Female Solo show. In her one woman show, she explores the edges of taboo, fantasy and “deviant” desires in today’s world.

The Boston based theatre artist draws on her own experience working as a phone sex operator. Pushing the boundaries of what is and isn’t acceptable in the light of day, Moore fleshes out both the absurdities and difficult truths that pervade the “no taboo” world of phone sex.

Offering truth, comedy and a little insight into the barriers we all build to hide our true selves, Moore has gained extensive praise. Fast Forward Weekly of Calgary described the show as “a running confessional, a series of anecdotes that add up to a powerful whole.” Roverarts.com called the show “the most intimate and insightful theatre experience you’re likely to have, in more ways than one.”

She just might change the you look at sex forever! Don’t miss Phone Whore April 21 and 22 at 8:00 pm and April 23 at 9:00 pm at the IndyFringe Theatre.

The Absinthe Minded Professors

A wild turn from the topic of Phone Whore, the Absinthe Minded Professors illuminate the Victorian era through a modern lens. Offering a hallucinatory vision of Victorian science fiction, or steampunk, their performance is rich with bizarre 19th century references to literature and history.

These refined performers address raw material from gory precursors to The Nutcracker to naughty interpretations of Jane Austen. Delightfully deranged and disturbed, the Absinthe Minded Professors combine storytelling and music to weave an evening of pure magic. Check out steampunk storytellers Joshua Stafford and Michi Regier, who are seasoned veterans of the national Renaissance festival circuit. See them at the IndyFringe Theatre April 23 at 7:30 pm and April 24 at 4:30 pm.
