“From the Top” is an award winning radio program on NPR that broadcasts to nearly 250 stations across the United States. The show celebrates the budding talents of young musicians. “From the Top” will broadcast live from the Palladium Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana, sponsored by Indianapolis media’s WFYI. The performance and broadcast get underway Tuesday, April 26 at 7 pm.
Host Christopher O’Riley shares the stories and performances of pre-collegiate musicians, shining a light on young talent across the country. Now young Indianapolis artists have a chance to shine on this national platform. For the past decade, “From the Top” has been the premiere showcase of America’s best young musicians. Each week, the program exposes millions of listeners to true passion.
Artistic director of Carmel’s Center for the Performing Arts will act as a special guest star in this Indianapolis version of “From the Top.” Feinstein is a singer, pianist and music revivalist famous for his work on the Great American Songbook. He is a winner of a Drama Desk Special Award for celebrating the legacy of musical theatre songs. Feinstein will host the show and perform Gershwin’s “Love Walked In” on his home turf at the Palladium. He will be accompanied by a string quartet of teenagers and host Christopher O’Riley on the piano.
Young musicians to be featured include Thomas English, a 17 year old bassoonist from Carmel, Katherine Kapelsohn, a 15 year old harpist from Bloomfield and 16 year old cellist Matthew Liversedge from Kentucky. In addition, Quartet Toujours will perform. This ensemble of 16 to 18 year old classical musicians makes their way to the Circle City from Ohio.
Over the years, some of the most impressive musicians have appeared on “From the Top” including Yo-Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Bobby McFerin, Bela Fleck and more. Michael Feinstein and these talented Midwestern teens will join the ranks of legendary performers to share their skills on “From the Top.” This show is the hottest ticket in Indianapolis music right now.
