Just because economic times are tough, doesn’t mean that the magic of youth should be expended. Every girl deserves to feel good about themselves when it comes to prom or graduation. A new dress, a pair of heels and some shiny new jewelry can turn a prom goer into a princess. But with tight household budgets, it can be hard for moms and dads to finance such a special evening. Pike High School comes to the rescue. Saturday, May 7 Pike High School hosts a Prom Closet Dress Drive, where young women can find a dress and all the trimmings for less than $30.
Let’s face it, we spend hundreds of dollars on a prom dress that is worn two times at most. After that, it sits in the closet collecting dust and taking up space. Donate your old prom dresses to this worthy cause and help make one girl’s prom night a magical event. This Indianapolis shopping event was started by the Pike High School National Honor Society three years ago to help students finance their prom and graduation clothing needs.
Gently used formal dresses are on sale for only $15. Walk away with a pair of shoes for only $5. And all accessories are only $2. This Indianapolis event is open to the entire Indianapolis community. It helps girls look like a million bucks without spending an unthinkable amount on one night of clothing.
Proceeds from this event will go to benefit the Women Like Us Foundation. This national not for profit organization is currently helping to rebuild schools in Costa Rica. With a mission to encourage, empower and engage women and girls to make a difference globally and locally, Women Like Us Foundation offers opportunities for women to help each other.
Carbon 1 is a small village two miles inland from Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. With 300 residents on about one square mile of land, the educational system is paid for with partial aid from the government. Unfortunately, this covers very few of the many expenses in running and keeping up a school. With twenty children between the ages of seven and thirteen registered to learn, the present infrastructure has only two small classrooms.
The school needs about $40.00 per child per year for school supplies and books and $200 for one year of high school for students that graduate from primary school. In addition, the school is in need of a new bathroom and maintenance of electricity.
This Indianapolis event is sponsored by the Aesthetic Design Style House. Head to RAIN Boutique on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM to participate in this worthy cause. Bring dresses to donate or cash to buy.
After you exercise your shopping muscles, grab a meal at any of these Indianapolis restaurants or Indianapolis bars.
