The hippest cultural venue in Fountain Square, Big Car Gallery, extends its vision beyond the boundaries of its current Indianapolis cultural district. In an attempt to service more Indianapolis people, the Big Car Gallery opens its Big Car Service Center on Lafayette Road near Indianapolis downtown. Many Indianapolis residents and culture vultures may question the addition of a near 38th Street location in a neighborhood with a serious lack of cultural innovation. However, Big Car is just the visionary to transform the 38th Street neighborhood into a thriving cultural center.
The 11,500 square foot “community creativity space,” as it has been dubbed, will provided a meeting ground for Hoosiers on a variety of different levels. The space will contain a community garden, creativity lab, lending library, neighborhood stories video screening room, a large-scale exhibition and community space and performance space. Located in a former Firestone tire center in front of Lafayette Square Mall, this big project will mandate a lot of volunteerism from community partners and patrons.
In an effort to raise awareness of and funds for this new project, Big Car Gallery has scheduled several upcoming events to kick off the start of renovating this building.
