Play to Learn at Indiana State Museum’s Summer Day Camps

Three long months of Summer with no educational stimulation have proven detrimental to kids educational development. Get your Indianapolis kids to engage with the world in a new way. The Indiana State Museum offers a variety of Summer Day Camp programs to entertain and educate Indianapolis kids all season long. Get the kids out of your hair and do something good for them at the same time. Register now for camps all Summer long at the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis downtown. Before and after camp care is available for a nominal fee to help working parents make the most of their work day. Space is limited. Don’t let your children miss out on this exciting Indianapolis education opportunity.

Pre-registration is required for all camps and before or after care. Before care runs from 8 am to 9:30 am and costs $20 per week ($4 per day). After care runs from 3 pm to 5:30 pm and costs $35 per week ($7 per day). Campers should bring their own non-refrigerated lunch and two snacks. The Indiana State Museum does offer a $5.00 child discount for siblings attending the same camp. The first child pays full price, while additional children from the same family get $5.00 off. All applications must be mailed together.

Motorsports Science Camp

This day camp runs June 6 to June 10 from 9 am to 3 pm for ages 9 to 12. It costs $185 for members of the Indiana State Museum and $210 for non-members. The registration deadline is May 23. Get inside the race track oval at the Indiana State Museum. Campers are transformed from car crashers and bashers to car designers and racers in this fast paced highly fueled week of racing.

Perfect for young race fans, this camp offers participants the opportunity to design, build and fine tune your own radio controlled race car. Tweak your designs throughout the week to come up with the fastest race car at the camp. Get advice from Indiana State University Motorsports experts, who will be on hand to guide campers through the mechanics of racing.

With a focus on sportsmanship, this camp lets Indianapolis kids join in Indianapolis sports greatest legacy.

Archaeology Camp: The Adventure Beneath Your Feet

Register for this adventurous camp experience by May 30. It runs June 13 to June 17 for Indianapolis kids age 9 to 12. Archaeology Camp costs $100 for members and $125 for non-members.

Walk in the footsteps of the ultimate adventurers. Archaeologists uncover the secrets of ancient civilizations by piecing together artifacts from thousands of years ago. But how do they do it? Discover first hand how archaeologists use their findings of today to understand the past. Get hands on experience with prehistoric tools using pump drills and throwing spears with an atlatl. Learn about this new profession and have fun doing it!

Exploring Nature Camp

Interact with nature like never before. The Indiana State Museum and the Earth Discovery Center at Eagle Creek Park team up to create this one of a kind camp experience. Discover fossils, plants and wildlife found in the Circle City as you get up close and personal with nature. Campers will learn about nature by exploring all the perks of Indianapolis parks including Ice Age fossils and native species. Learn how to protect the environment and put that knowledge to the test as you hike through Eagle Creek Park, exploring pond life and enjoying a crazy creek stomp!

This camp is for Indianapolis kids ages 7 to 10. It runs June 20 to June 24 and costs $100 for members of the Indiana State Museum and $125 for non members. Register by June 6 to secure you spot!

History Alive Camp

Interact with Indianapolis history first hand in a week full of hands on activities. Build a cabin. Pack a wagon for your “journey” west to Indiana. Learn why we are called Hoosiers and experience what life was like for Indiana natives during the 19th and 20th centuries. Interact with re-enactors and characters to see first hand how Indianapolis history is preserved at the Indiana State Museum.

This camp runs June 27 to July 1 for ages 9 to 13. It costs $100 for members and $125 for non members.

Paleontology Camp: Fossils, Mammoths and More!

Be a paleontologist as you search for fossils in Indiana. Uncover the mystery of Indiana’s missing dinosaur record and learn about the great creatures that once roamed the Hoosier homeland including mammoths, saber tooth cats and even rhinoceroses. Plus, learn about sea creatures that lived in this region when it was under water and dive into mock cave excavations to get the total experience.

This camp runs July 5 to 8 for ages 9 to 12. It costs $100 for members and $125 for non members. Registration deadline is June 20.

Crime Scene Indiana State Museum

Someone has stolen pieces of valuable Indianapolis art at the Indiana State Museum. They need you to help solve the mystery and capture the crooks. Use your super sleuthing powers of deduction to solve this and other mysteries. Examine evidence, dust for fingerprints and analyze mock crime scenes to hone your forensics skills. Campers will meet real forensics experts and learn the science behind crime scene investigation.

This camp runs July 11 to 14 for ages 9 to 12. It costs $100 for members and $125 for non members. Registration deadline is June 27.

Paleontology Camp II: The Pipe Creek Experience

Take part of the Pipe Creek Experience, where campers will get a chance to explore Indiana’s nature more than 5 million years ago. Work side by side with a museum paleontologist as you dig into the Pipe Creek Site. Work with real material to uncover the remains of rhinos, camels and other unique inhabitants of Indiana’s past. Wet screen, peer through a microscope and discover life!

This camp runs July 18 to 22 for kids at 11 to 14. It costs $185 for members and $210 for non members.
