East Meets Midwest at Asian Fest in Garfield Park

It’s festival season in Indiana. Every Hoosier loves a good walk through the park, with the chance to taste exotic and unusual foods, hear new music and join in various fun times. Asian Fest in Garfield Park is no exception. Hoosiers will gather in Garfield Park Sunday, June 5 for Asian Fest, a celebration of Asian culture in Indianapolis. Presented through a partnership between Indy Parks and Recreation and Asian American Alliance, Inc., this Indianapolis event gives Indianapolis people a taste of Asia.

Travel to China, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, India and Indonesia without even leaving the Circle City. Enjoy fine artwork and cultural regalia from Asian artists based in Indianapolis. Plus, cultural entertainment and activities will be offered throughout the day. And of course, vendors will be on hand to tantalize your taste buds with food from across the region. All this and admission is absolutely FREE to all people.

Take a walk through the Bonsai Show at the Conservatory and Sunken Gardens in Garfield Park. Learn about the art of Japanese animation and enter the world of anime. Marvel as the Asian art exhibit at the Garfield Arts Center. Shop at Asian merchandise vendors, and take a taste of the food from local Asian restaurants. As an added bonus, Asian Fest helps attendees focus on better Indianapolis health with free health screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, body mass index and dental hygiene education.

Indianapolis education
is also a focus of this event as the Asian American Alliance hands out scholarships to deserving Indianapolis Public School students and Asian American students who have proven themselves leaders.

“Asian American Alliance, in partnership with Indy Parks, is proud to present the Asian Fest to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Asia that can be found in Central Indiana that makes it a more vibrant interesting place to live,” says President of the Asian American Alliance, Vince Wong. “Instead of flying 18 hours to travel to Asia, this family friendly event allows Central Indiana residents to experience a bit of Asia in their own backyard.”
