The Pancreatic Cancer Action Networks hosts its first ever 5K Fundraiser in Indianapolis. Saturday June 25, the Purple Stride 5K Walk takes over White River State Park in Indianapolis downtown to raise money for and awareness of pancreatic cancer. This Indianapolis not for profit organization directly funds research and lobbies the United States Federal government to increase research dollars for pancreatic cancer. Support the mission of this noble Indianapolis charity Saturday, June 25 at the White River State Park. Form a team, raise donations and walk for pancreatic cancer at the Purple Stride 5K Run and Family Friendly Walk.
Pancreatic Cancer is an aggressive form of cancer that forms in the tissues of the pancreas. Located in the abdomen, behind the lower part of the stomach, the pancreas is a key organ in the human digestive system. The pancreas contains exocrine glands, which produce enzymes that help the body digest food, and endocrine glands, which help control blood sugar levels by producing hormones like insulin. Cancerous tumors are generally found in the exocrine glands, which are responsible for breaking down fats.
Pancreatic cancer is the ninth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. Nearly 43,000 Americans are diagnosed each year. The patient survival rate after one and half years is only 14%, making it one of the most deadly forms of cancer striking citizens.
Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has grown into the only national organization fighting pancreatic cancer in a comprehensive way. In addition to funding research and lobbying for increased federal funds, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network also helps patients and caregivers make informed decisions by providing reliable information about various health care options. In addition, this organization encourages both individuals and communities to work together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
The Purple Stride 5K Run and Family Friendly Walk is one such event organized by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Advance registration is $25 for all Indianapolis people and $30 on the day of this Indianapolis event.
