It’s that time of year again, the time all Indianapolis children dread: back to school. The doorways of Indianapolis schools may not be flung open wide just yet, but parents and Indianapolis businesses are already gearing up for the big day. In the next few weeks, parents will be dragging their grumbling children down the aisles of stores, looking for school clothes, lunch boxes, notebooks, pens, and all the other accessories kids will need when they first climb on the big yellow school bus. But there is one silver lining for kids dreading the Back to School season. The Indianapolis Children’s Museum will be hosting a day of fun activities and interactive learning with PlayFit: Ready for School, Ready for Fun, taking place on Saturday, August 6, 2011.

The highlight of the afternoon for kids will likely be the special guest appearance by Dora and Diego of Dora the Explorer fame. These lovable characters will be showing up at the Indianapolis museum starting at 9:00 a.m. Each appearance lasts about 30 minutes, and seating is limited, so make sure you show up early to get the chance to meet Dora and her famous cousin! Tickets are absolutely free and available at the Lower Level Ticket Booth starting at 10:00 a.m.
But Dora isn’t the only fun face you’ll see at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Kids can also experience the wild creativity and imagination that goes into making music with Dr. Noize, a Stanford graduate who turned his experience in electronic music, classical music history, and voice into a colorful, educational musical experience for kids. During PlayFit, Dr. Noize will be creating a unique song for eager Indy children in a mere 90 minutes! Not content simply to write a killer track, Dr. Noize asks for the help of every participant to write, record, and produce a cool song that the kids can call their very own.
Utilizing Doctor Noize’s Big Collection of Instruments and Whatcha Gadgetz, each kid will have a hand in this sweet jam session. Afterwards, parents can download their original track and pump out the jamz on the car ride home. Plus, at 1:30, kids can hear Dr. Noize perform their song live! Combining humor with catchy melodies, and lyrics about kindness, character, and friendship, Dr. Noize is a delight for kids and adults alike, and this Indianapolis museum is the perfect setting for him. Indianapolis music for kids doesn’t get any better than that. Plus, one lucky participant will win an iPad pre-loaded with the “Bananas!”, a fun Dr. Noize game!

PlayFit: Ready for School, Ready for Fun will also give kids the chance to do what they’ve likely been doing all summer: run around. Sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent Hospital, PlayFit is all about Indianapolis health. The goal is to make sure kids continue to pursue the healthy, active lifestyle even when they’re saddled with books and classes all day. Kids don’t normally need an excuse to climb everything in sight, but PlayFit gives you just one more opportunity to wear them out for the night.
If your kids are starting to gripe about the 70 pounds of school equipment you’re attempting to shove into that book bag you just bought them, you should head to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on Saturday, August 6, 2011 to be a part of PlayFit: Ready for School, Ready for Fun. Kids and their parents will get the chance to meet international celebrity Dora the Explorer and her friendly cousin, Diego, a celebrity in his own right. Your kids will realize their own creative potential when they pick up one of Dr. Noize’s Whatcha Gadgetz and take their own piece of Indianapolis music stardom home with them. This Indianapolis event takes place Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is absolutely free with museum admission to all Indianapolis people. PlayFit: Ready for School, Ready for Fun is probably the only back to school event your kids will get excited about, so head on out to downtown Indianapolis to have some fun!
