Originally scheduled to open for Ke$ha at the The Lawn at White River State Park, LMFAO is determined not to disappoint Indianapolis music lovers. While Ke$ha cancelled her Indianapolis appearance to practice for an upcoming MTV sponsored concert, keeping her Chicago gig the night before, LMFAO still plans to make their sojourn to the Hoosier state. LMFAO performs in the Egyptian Room at the Old National Centre in Indianapolis downtown Tuesday, August 23 at 8 pm. Tickets are $22 plus fees for this all ages Indianapolis event.
Based in Los Angeles, California, LMFAO consists of rappers, dancers and DJs Redfoo (Stefan Kendal Gordy) and SkyBlu (Sklyer Husten Gordy). This uncle and nephew duo have music running through their veins, as the son and grandson of Motwon record label founder Berry Gordy. Their “party rock” style encompasses music focused on partying and drinking. Their name is an acronym for “Laughing My Fucking Ass Off,” an common online abbreviation.
The group first came to fame in 2008, when they released their “Party Rock EP” on Interscope records. The album reached #33 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the United States Dance Chart and was described by the Los Angeles Times as “14 virtually interchangeable dance odes to night life.” Their first hit single, “I’m in Miami Bitch,” peaked at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group retooled the song using DJ Chuckie’s 2008 hit “Let the Bass Kick” to create “Bass Kick in Miami.” The song became the theme for the reality television show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. In addition, their music has been featured on Jersey Shore and the band’s 2009 appearance in Cancun was documented on MTV’s The Real World: Cancun.
As they continue to cut songs to serves as party anthems, including their 2011 hit “Party Rock Anthem,” the band is a champion of youthful and wild abandon. In 2011, they embarked on an international tour playing Singapore, Manila, the Philippines, Taipei, Taiwan and Malaysia.
With influence from rappers like Tupac Shakur, hip hop groups like The Black Eyed Peas, R&B artists James Brown and Michael Jackson and rock groups like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, this genre blending group offers a new sound in electronic music. While they are still relative new-comers to the music scene, they have gained some recognition. With Grammy and Hip Hop Nation Award nominations, there is certainly more to come from this bad band.
