The Madame Walker Theatre Center

Madam-Walker-Theater-Indianapolis-IndianaCelebration Gospel Festival – Soulful singers from the Indianapolis Public Schools and from more than 50 area congregations combine their talents for a symphonic choir tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His dream lives on as Indianapolis people celebrate his legacy with gospel music.

Jazz on the Avenue featuring Sandy Lomax and Friends – As Super Bowl weekend approaches, the Madame Walker Theatre intends to get in on the action. Join Sandy Lomax and friends for an evening of jazz including a live band and a cash bar. Hear some oldies, but goodies, at this Jazz on the Avenue event.

Super Soul Celebration – Soul Legacy live presents “A Celebration of Soul, Funk, Blues and Jazz.” Hosted by Indy Jazz legend Chuck Workman, this special Indianapolis music features special tributes to Luther Vandross, Phyllis Hyman and Marvin Gaye. A percentage of all tickets sold goes to Madame Walker Theater Center.

The Indiana Repertory Theater

August Wilson’s Radio Golf – August Wilson is the bard of the African American experience. The IRT presents the final play of his ten-play cycle on the African American experience, Radio Golf. Set in the 1990s, it follows a Pittsburgh mayoral candidate as he struggles to find the balance between ambition and honoring his past.

Historic Artcraft Theater

Artcraft-TheaterJailhouse Rock – See the vintage Elvis Presley film Jailhouse Rock at the Artcraft Theater in Franklin, Indiana. Released in 1957, the film tells of a young man’s rise to fame after leaving prison. Also starring Judy Taylor and Mickey Shaugnessy, the film was Elvis’ 3rd film and his first for MGM.

Based on the graphic film of the same name, Debbie Does Dallas is a campy romp through the triumphs and failures of one Texan belle on a quest to become a Dallas Cowboy’s cheerleader.

Two Rooms by Lee Blessing – Set in a windowless cubicle in Beirut, where a Michael an American hostage is being held by Arab terrorists, and a room in his United States home, which his wife has stripped of furniture to symbolically share his ordeal, Two Rooms is a provocative and compelling show. Presented by Indianapolis’ newest theater company, Acting Up Productions, this is an Indianapolis event not to be missed.
