Midwinter Dance Festival at Butler University – The students enrolled in the Butler University Ballet program are among the best in the city. This February, Butler Ballet produces an engaging performance featuring renowned choreographers Nacho Duato, artistic director of Russia’s Mikailovsky Ballet, and Kevin Irving, former artistic director of The Gothenburg Ballet in Sweden. The pair will be in Butler this Winter to set Duato’s Vos Per Muero, which translate to “For thee I Die” from a poem by Garcilaso de le Vega. The piece is a “juxtaposition of text and sound… which moves between traditional Spanish social dance and classical and contemporary ballet,” says Larry Attaway, chair of Butler’s Dance Department.

Basile at Crackers Comedy Club – Treat your Valentine to the best gift around: laughter. The most diverse entertainer in the business hits the stage at Crackers Comedy Club in Indianapolis downtown. With fans in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Africa, Basile has proved himself capable of crossing cultural lines with his humor. This unique north Indianapolis cinema presents all the Oscar nominated films, but the shorts are a special addition not normally found at movie theaters. See the nominees and choose the winners in a Valentine’s Day event perfect for film buffs. Then watch the Academy Awards live on ABC on February 26.

IMA Winter Nights Film Series – Enjoy a classic film at the Indianapolis Museum of Art the weekend before or after Valentine’s Day. On February 10, see The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. Can a hardened Irish boxer fit his rough and tumble ways into the sphere domesticity? Then on February 17, see Charade, starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Walter Matthau. Indiana Pacers vs. Miami Heat – Not all Valentine’s Day activities have to be ooey-gooey romance. Treat your guy to a Valentine’s Day match up between the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Miami Heat haven’t had a stellar season thus far with losses against the Warriors and the Clippers, but that doesn’t mean the Pacers can just sail through this match up. As the Miami Heat enter Bankers Life Fieldhouse thirsty for a win, this game is sure to be a struggle to the finish.

Indiana Ice vs. Chicago Steel – The basketball court at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will be forgone to make space for an ice hockey arena at Bankers Life Fieldhouse when the Chicago Steel come to town. See the Indiana Ice go tooth to tooth against the Chicago Steel in this Valentine’s Weekend match up. Indianapolis kids under 12 and seniors 62 and over get $2 off the price of admission. Those holding a Youth Hockey Card will get one free ticket for youth hockey participants.
