This Midwest based business has several locations around Indiana and in Ohio and Michigan, but their most famous location is nestled on Monument Circle.

The Story

The Chocolate Cafe on Monument Circle, Indianapolis, INFounded in 1991 from humble beginnings, the Chocolate Cafe is owned by the South Bend Chocolate Company. SBCC began as a second business for Mark Tarner and his wife. By 1994, the company was incorporated. Today, the small little confectioner shop has grown into itself. With ten company-owned stores in northern Indiana and ten franchised locations in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, this Indiana business finds its head quarters in South Bend, Indiana.

It’s first license to make chocolates came from the University of Notre Dame, where the shop specialized in Domers (a silky whipped chocolate truffle), Rocknes (a confectionery creation including a mound of premium chocolate blended with coconut, almond and cherry flavoring) and chocolate covered nuts. Now the South Bend Chocolate Company makes licensed chocolates for Indiana University, Purdue University and Michigan University. They also wholesale their high-quality line of chocolates to confectionery stores, gift shops, gourmet food stores, coffee shops and gift basket companies across the United States.
