Decor at Taste Cafe
Owners Marc Urwand and Deidra Henry opened Taste Cafe and Marketplace in 2004 This pair of seasoned executive chefs made the move to Indianapolis after spending 15 successful years managing kitchens in five star New York and Los Angeles restaurants. Their gourmet artistry has been recognized in such prestigious publications as Gourmet, Food Arts and the L.A. Times. Now the pair have brought their talents to Indianapolis, where Henry grew up.
“I feel I’ve come full circle in my cooking philosophies,” says co-owner and head chef Deidra Henry. “I grew up making old fashioned favorites for my family and then went on to learn complex recipes and sophisticated presentation techniques from five-star chefs. What I’ve found is people want high quality, not high style. Now I focus on infusing fresh flavors and innovative twists into simple and traditional recipes.”

“Presentation is more than just making food pretty,” adds co-owner Marc Urwand. “It should evoke emotion and stimulate the senses throughout the entire meal. My passion is creating delectable food, which is beautifully presented because this is such an important part of the dining experience. When cuisine is artfully presented, you know the ingredients are fresh, the recipe was well-executed and the preparation was precise.”
Some highlights of the Taste Cafe menu include the deep dish strata, a fluffy egg creation with different ingredients every week. For lunch try the classic or curry chicken salad or the Italian grinder, made with imported mortadella, coppa, genoa salami, provolone and olive tapenade. And don’t forget the pomme frites, served with basil aioli. Or enjoy the deviled eggs made with dill and capers. And of course, Taste Cafe offers a wide range of sweet treats: chocolate tortes, lemon bars, cookies and more.
