Get ready to rumble! Monster Jam® is coming to Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, January 26, 2013. This year’s event is sponsored by Advance Auto Parts, and will feature some of the biggest and baddest monster trucks on the planet—no basic transportation here!
These amazing machines will face off in two different competitions – Racing and Freestyle. In side-by-side racing, drivers line up in a traditional heads-up tournament style to see who can be the first to cross the finish line. The winner move on to the next round until all but one is eliminated and wins the Championship Trophy.
The freestyle competition is always a fan favorite, and in many ways, the best format for showcasing a driver’s skill. In freestyle, drivers have 90 seconds to perform stunts and tricks on an open floor. As massive and powerful as these trucks are, they can be quite graceful, jumping over trucks and getting big air. Drivers get a 30-second bonus period after the initial 90 seconds have elapsed. Three judges evaluate each driver and issue a score out of 10 possible points.
While no two shows are identical, other competitions may include Pro Stadium/Arena Truck competition, Quad Wars, and various Thrill acts, including a donut contest and even a wheelie competition. In the wheelie competition, drivers hit a ramp to get in a wheelie position, perpendicular to the ground, and then try to maintain that position as long as possible. In the donut competition, drivers spin their trucks until they can’t spin anymore, either because the truck loses control, the driver is too dizzy to continue, or thinks he has most likely earned a winning score.
