Egotistical bosses beware: The ladies are fed up! The Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre kicks off its 40thAnniversary Season with 9 to 5: The Musical. Based on the famous 1980 film, the play offers a hilarious story of sexism and revenge as three ladies plot to get even with their bigoted boss.
When things don’t go as planned, the situation becomes hilarious, as these ladies begin to realize they can control their own destinies, even in a man’s world.
The book for 9 to 5: The Musical was written by Patricia Resnick. Choreography was done by Andy Blankenbuehler, while Joe Mantello directs the show. Annie Edgerton, who has performed on Broadway and debuted at Beef & Boards as Paulette Bonafonté in last season’s production of Legally Blonde, plays the leading role of head secretary Violet Newstead. Actress Sara Hund plays the role of new girl, Judy Bernly. Hund has stared in other Beef & Boards productions, including the Smoke on the Mountain series, Singin’ In The Rain, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Crystal Mosser of Lafayette debuts as Doralee Rhodes, the character played by Dolly Parton in the original film.
The musical originally premiered in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre on September 2008, and later on Broadway in 2009. Its 15 Drama Desk Awards nominations are the most received by a production in a single year. It has also been nominated for 4 Tony Awards.
